Freddy’s Nightmares will take on Michael’s Maniacs on October 6 at the Erie County Fairgrounds during the Sandusky Rollergirls Halloween Bout. Open to the public, doors will open at 6p.m. and the bout will start at 7 p.m.

The bout is an invitational of local derby members from the Sandusky Rollergirls, Burning River Roller Girls, Glass City Rollergirls and Little Steel Rollergirls teams. Players from each team will be split into two teams, named Freddy’s Nightmares and Michael’s Maniacs. The two teams then will face each other head to head during the bout. The members of the two teams were picked gym class, dodgeball style by two captains.

“We sent out an invite on Facebook to other area roller teams to see if any would be interested in doing an invitational and got a huge response back” said Marikate Timmons, secretary for the Rollergirls. Timmons joined the Rollergirls when the team was formed in May 2010, and has loved every minute of being a part of it.

According to Timmons, she lives for being a rollergirl. “It’s anger management, it’s fun and it’s exercise all rolled into one. You get to hit people and not get into trouble for it, I love it” she said.

To add to the fun, players will be dressed not in their normal jersey attire, but in Halloween costumes. Team Michael’s Maniacs are dressing up in the well-known blue Michael Myer’s pantsuit, but with added twists. “We’ve tweaked the suits to fit our personalities. Some girls have gone and bought the costume and cut it up some to fit their style.” Team Freddy will be in red.

During the bout, a 50/50 raffle will take place at halftime along with a raffle in which audience members could win a basket filled with prizes. The baskets are filled with a variety of prizes; one of the baskets even has day passes to Kalahari Waterpark and Kalahari merchandise.

Tickets are available pre-sale at $8 each or two for $15, and will be $10 at the door, children 10 and under get in free. You can purchase tickets from any Sandusky Rollergirl or at brownpapertickets.com.
