App of the Week: Bad Piggies

You know them, you love, you get seriously frustrated by them, they're those nasty little pigs from the Angry Birds series, and they're back in this Monday's App of the Week, Bad Piggies.

Bad Piggies is the newest release from Rovio, the company behind the Angry Birds franchise that we all know and love. Rovio is a favorite of ours, in the past we’ve also chosen Angry Birds: Space and more recently, Amazing Alex as picks for app of the week.

We aren’t alone in feelings of love either. Rovio's games are so popular that when they released Bad Piggies at the end of September, the game broke every record by becoming the number one app in the iTunes App Store in a mere 3 hours.

So what makes this game so much more popular than its Angry ancestors?

While this game has a very similar setup to the Angry Birds games, the difference is that instead of tossing birds at pigs, you're on the side of the pigs this time. The point of the game is to help the hungry pigs find their way to food, in the form of once-fiercely-protected eggs, by nabbing the pieces of the treasure map located on each level.

In each level, you have to figure out how to get your pig from the starting point to the ending finish line where a portion of the treasure map awaits. Since, obviously, pigs don't fly, for each level you build a different vehicle to get your green oinker to the finish line, and collect things along the way. The gameplay is very familiar, but of course, the physics and other obstacles are what make the game a challenge!

If you're a fan of the Angry Birds franchise, you may be wondering why you would even want to help the pigs that you've been fighting for several games now. Our guess is so the piggies are ready to fight their winged nemeses in the next Rovio game.

We definitely recommend this game for any fans of the Angry Birds games. Bad Piggies is available for free on Android devices in the Google Play App Store HERE or for $0.99 on iPhone or iPad HERE.
