App of the Week: Amazon Mobile

We figured it was the perfect week to review the Amazon Mobile app, what with it being Cyber Monday and all.

Chances are you're familiar with Amazon.com, the world's largest online retailer. In fact, you might even be reading this review on your Amazon Kindle Fire.

Amazon started as an online bookstore offering deep discounts on textbooks and novels alike. They soon expanded to carry more types of media like DVDs, CDs, software and mp3 downloads. Today they carry pretty much everything from furniture to car parts. And they have a mobile app that allows you to do everything you can do on their desktop website right from your smartphone or other mobile device.

If you have an existing Amazon account, it's simple to get started. Just log in with your Amazon information and you're ready to shop!

Amazon Mobile allows you to search for a product multiple different ways. You can type in what you're looking for like the traditional website or you can search by department, but what we think is the coolest way, is you can search Amazon by taking a picture of an item or scanning it's barcode. If you frequently try to compare prices then this app would be very helpful for you!

When you find an item you would like to purchase click "Add to Cart" or "Buy Now" to be taken to a payment page. If you're not sure you want it yet or are deciding between multiple items click "Save for Later" to add it to your wish list.

The app also includes a link right on the home screen that will take you to the Amazon Deal of the Day. Currently they have a link to some Cyber Monday deals.

Of course, the Amazon Mobile app also has the customer reviews and recommendations the browser version has.

The Amazon Mobile app is available for free for iOS devices HERE, Blackberry devices HERE, and Android devices, including the Kindle Fire of course, HERE.
