“This is the ninth year we have hosted this event and it is a fun way to spend a winter evening,” said Dennis Bauer, organizer of the event. “Everything is served in Victorian style and you feel like you have been transported back in time.”

The holiday themed dinners consist of four courses that are served by maids. All the servants are dressed up in Victorian themed costumes and stay in character throughout the dinner.
“In the 1880’s the maids were not allowed to talk to the guests, so none of the maids will speak during the event,” Bauer said. “There will also be a butler that greets you at the beginning of the dinner and other servants throughout the evening.”
The dinners take place at the John Wright Mansion on the Historic Lyme Village property. The entire mansion is decorated in beautiful Christmas decorations for the celebration.
“There will also be live music, storytellers and a visit from Saint Nicholas,” Bauer said. “Guests are also invited to tour the mansion after the dinners and look at all the Christmas decorations.”
The storytellers will talk about the history of the mansion, as well as share some of their favorite Christmas stories.
While the event is aimed at adults, some guests choose to bring their older children too.
“It really gets people in the holiday spirit and is just a great way to catch up with friends and family, while enjoying some delicious food,” Bauer said. “Plus this is one of our biggest fundraisers, so all the money goes to a very worthy cause.”
The Historic Lyme Village will be hosting their annual Victorian Christmas Dinners from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, November 30 and Saturday, December 1, and from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, December 2 at the John Wright Mansion at the village, 5001 State Route 4 in Bellevue.
Admission to the dinner is $49 per person and $45 for HLV members. Most of the dinners are already completely booked, but there may be a few openings still left. To make a reservation or learn more information about the Lyme Village Victorian Christmas Dinners, visit www.lymevillage.com.
