Join hundreds of people at the Vermilion River Reservation’s Carriage Barn this Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at their annual “Winter Days” event.

“In the beginning, we were looking for a way to bring people out to the park during the winter,” explained Jannah Wilson, senior naturalist at Lorain County Metroparks. Winter Days started at the Vermilion River Reservation in the early 2000’s and has become a popular family fun event ever since.

Want to go?
WHAT: Winter Days
WHEN: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday

One of the big draws to the event is the sleigh dog presentation. If there is snow, the dogs will show how they team up and carry huge loads on sleighs. If no snow shows up to the party, the sleigh will be pulled on wheels.

“All dogs will also be set up for a meet and greet for people to pet the dogs and learn about how all the dogs work together,” said Wilson.

Elegant Ice, a professional ice carving service from Cleveland, will be doing ice carvings at 1 and 2 p.m. and are a must to check out during the event. “The ice carvings are really neat, very detailed and are usually nature themed carvings to match the park theme,” said Wilson.

Local guitar player, Chad May, will be performing live music from 12-3 p.m. in the carriage barn. “Chad performs acoustic guitar music, and also does kid-friendly music as well,” said Wilson.

Another popular activity, sleigh rides, are back and ready to excite. The rides are available from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and the cost is only $1 per rider. Children under 42 inches are free.

Special guest Cleveland Aquarium will be present. “Cleveland Aquarium will have a booth set up and giving away prizes. One of their mascots will also be making an appearance.”

More fun happening throughout the day includes primitive cooking demonstrations, ice fishing demonstrations, a sledding hill and ice harvesting display in the Summer Kitchen.

Of course, delicious hot chocolate, cookies and coffee will be served in the Carriage Barn throughout the day, with wood fire pizzas also available to purchase.
