Don’t miss this year’s Taste of the North Coast

Taste of the North Coast, one of our favorite local food and drink tasting events, is back in action for its third year. “I describe it [the event] as going out to dinner to 22 places at the same time,” said John Moldovan, president of the Erie County Chamber of Commerce.

“We started Taste of the North Coast with two purposes. One, to give restaurants, during a normally flat time in sales, the opportunity to show off their stuff, and two, as a fundraiser for us,” explained Moldovan.

According to Moldovan, the event is always a huge hit with vendors and tasters alike. “It’s really, very successful,” he said.

New thing to expect for the 2013 event are the silent auction has grown, new beverage stations were added and food demonstrations are taking place to give the event a fresh and new experience. “This year we will have four chefs doing food demonstrations,” Moldovan said. “We’re really excited about that.”

Four beverage stations will be keeping you in drinks throughout the evening. Firelands Winery, Great Lakes Brewing Company, Wines of Kalahari and Heidelberg Distributing Company, are all up to the challenge of keeping your thirst quenched, each offering locally favored drinks.

A silent auction will be taking place during the tasting and according to Moldovan, there’s some awesome stuff being auctioned off you won’t want to miss out on, so make sure you place a bid. “Everything from tool sets to gift certificates from the restaurants present, to home décor items. There will be really cool stuff,” he said.

Although you don’t have to be 21 to join in on the fun, you do have to be 21 to sample any alcoholic drinks. “We don’t have a price break [for minors], it’s just a flat rate. We welcome children, but we do consider this an adult event,” said Moldovan.

So come join in the fun, and don’t forget to come hungry.
