“We have Family Art Day a few times a year because it is a great opportunity to spend time with your loved ones, while also being creative,” said Kevin Casto, art director and owner of the Art Junction. “For this Family Art Day we will be celebrating the beginning of spring.”

WHAT: Family Art Day
WHEN: 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Saturday, March 23
WHERE: The Art Junction, 2634 Prairie Street, New Haven
COST: $3 per person plus a canned food donation
Participants will be using air-dry clay to make 3D butterflies. After they have sculpted the butterfly they will be able to paint it.
“We chose butterflies because they are a perfect example of renewal,” Castro said. “Spring is all about starting over and we thought a butterfly was the best example of that.”
Participants can then take their butterfly home with them at the end of the event.
“The New Haven United Methodist Church is right next door and they have invited all participants to come enjoy lunch at their church that day as well,” Casto said. “They will also have some arts and crafts for participants to take part in too.”
The Art Junction estimates between 25 and 30 people will come to this event.
“We usually get a pretty good turnout,” Casto said. “No experience is necessary and all are welcomed.”
Admission to the event is $3, plus you must donate a canned food item. All donations will then be given to the Willard Food Bank.
“This is a great opportunity for families to come together and work as a team,” Casto said. “We have grandparents that bring their grandkids, parents who bring their children and even older adults who come with their grown children. All are welcomed regardless of age.”
Casto will be on-hand to guide participants as they create their butterflies and will help each participant if they need assistance.
The Art Junction will be hosting a Family Art Day from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 23 at their location, 2634 Prairie Street in New Haven. For more information or to RSVP, call 419-935-3404.
