Erie MetroParks is hosting their third annual Winter Solstice Celebration on Saturday, December 21 at East Sandusky Bay MetroPark.
“We will meet at the Enchanted Cottage and go for a hike around the park,” said Beki Catri, marketing coordinator for Erie MetoParks. “After the hike we will then go back to the Enchanted Cottage and have hot chocolate on the patio.”

WHAT: Winter Solstice Celebration
WHEN: 6 pm on Saturday, December 21
WHERE: Enchanted Cottage, East Sandusky Bay MetroPark
The hike will be weather dependent, but it should take place unless there is a major snow storm.
“Unless it is really cold or we have really bad weather, the hike will go on,” Catri said. “Since the weather will be cold during the hike we encourage participants to wear a warm hat, gloves, a winter jacket and tennis shoes.”
The walk will last approximately 30 to 40 minutes and 15 to 20 people are expected to attend.
This fun family event is for people of all ages, so if parents are comfortable letting their children hike at night, then they are welcomed to bring them along.
“This hike is really nice because it gives people an opportunity to get outside and enjoy some beautiful local scenery,” Catri said. “Also, going on a hike can help relieve some holiday stress, so it is relaxing as well.”
After the event participants can enjoy the hand painted murals at the Enchanted Cottage and the breathtaking view of Plum Brook from the cottage’s balcony.
Registration for the event is encouraged, but attendees can also just show up on the day of the event.
