For fans of indie pop supergroup The New Pornographers, the downtime between album releases often finds its members exploring solo waters. This includes singer and visionary Carl Newman who recently returned with his third solo album “Shut Down The Streets.”
The album’s best track is the insidiously catchy “Encyclopedia Of Classic Takedowns,” which features fellow New Pornographers member Neko Case on backup vocals. The result is equally sublime and confusing, with its breezy melodies, catchy chords and delicious harmonies creating an instant classic that, well, sounds just like The New Pornographers.
Perhaps it’s best to view this track as an alluring appetizer of things to come. Check out the song right here:
