Here’s what you need to know about this year’s Readers’ Choice Awards: 
 
• Voting started Jan. 20 at Funcoast.com and continues through Feb. 7.
• Voters will be selected at random for prize giveaways.
• Are you a business in any of these categories? Contact your Sandusky Register or Norwalk Reflector sales representative to find out how you can be part of this year’s RCAs.
• Keyword text voting is part of this year’s voting.
• Winners will be notified in person and announced in Funcoast.com Magazine’s Winners Edition on March 5.

Businesses have been given the opportunity to have their name attached to this year's awards as they have in past years. We have made this year's sponsorship package more robust and less expensive.

We have also made it more difficult to "stuff" the ballot box in this year's awards.

The sponsorship packages get those businesses exposure in print and online far exceeding what they can get with everyday advertising rates. The spots in print and online can be found daily and businesses can still get their name attached to the awards.

The sponsorship also includes a texting program for voting. All these things are at a cost to Funcoast in the facilitation of the awards.

Chef Eric,

I cannot comment on the things that happened last year because I did not play an integral part in the 2013 Funcoast.com Readers' Choice Awards. I sincerely do mean it when I say, I apologize for any issues that came up during that time period. I understand that likely doesn't ease your frustration from last year, but I hope the modifications that we put in place for 2014 will.

This year, there have been a few changes to help ensure honest and fair voting for all the businesses that fit within the scope of Funcoast.com and our awards. For example, we have eliminated the nomination process of businesses, due to similar concerns that you've expressed. The write in ballot opens the playing field of all businesses in our 5 county market who meet the criteria of the categories we've selected.

Eliminating paper ballots also relieved the stress from our representatives who coincidentally turned into a fulfillment team of picking up and dropping off ballots and forms. This system we've put in place allows the 2014 Readers' Choice Awards to be focused on the businesses and the community members who support them.

I apologize for my delayed (and long) response, but I wanted to make sure I took the time to understand your frustration and do my best to answer your questions/concerns. If I have not done so and/or you have additional feedback, please feel free to contact me directly.
