lakesideohio.com - Robert Cronquist and the Lakeside Symphony close the 2008 season on Friday, August 22. The outstanding Clevelandartists: Caroline Goulding, violin; Regina Mushabac, violoncello; and Emanuela Friscioni, piano will be featured in Beethoven’s masterpiece, the “Triple Concerto in C-Major” which was premiered in 1807. Because of the difficulty of all three solo parts -- demanding first class artists-- it is not surprising that the premiere was the only performance during Beethoven’s lifetime. The 45th season of Lakeside Symphony will conclude with the only symphony by Cesare Franck – his “Symphony in D-Minor.” Franck’s only symphony caused quite a stir when it was first performed because of its mystical style and his use of the English horn in the second movement. The work overcame its critics and has been hailed as one of the masterpieces in the symphonic repertoire. Franck was 67 years old when the Paris Conservatory Orchestra reluctantly premiered his symphony. While he was generally indifferent to acclaim, he knew in his heart that he had left an enduring hymn for posterity. This event is sponsored by Dr. Jim and Betty Jane Young.
