The Lakeside Symphony Orchestra is celebrating its 45th season. Robert Cronquist will be returning to Lakeside for his 38th year as conductor of the Lakeside Symphony Orchestra - presenting another wonderful season of great music and outstanding soloists.  Cronquist also conducts the historic Cleveland Women’s Orchestra – www.clevelandwomensorchestra.org

The “British are Coming” on Saturday, August 16, when Mr. Cronquist and the orchestra present a “Night at the Proms.”  Popular baritone, Fred Reeder, and the Lakeside Chorale, under the direction of Craig Dieterich, will join the orchestra for an delightful evening of British music.    The Overture to “Yeomen of the Guard” by Sir Arthur Sullivan will open the program.   The Chorus and orchestra will combine for the “Coronation Anthem” that Handel wrote for King George (Handel’s former employer when he lived in Hanover).   Mr. Reeder will present six of his wonderful Gilbert and Sullivan specialties;  “When Britain Really Ruled the Waves,” “Our Great Mikado,” “I’ve Got You on My List,” “When I Was a Lad,” the “Nightmare Song” and lastly “I am the Very Model of a Modern Major General.”   The orchestra will complete the program with other English works including Handel’s “Royal Fireworks Music,” “Colonel Bogey March” and the “London Suite” of Eric Coates.    The “London Suite” beautifully depicts the hustle and bustle of Covent Garden, the famous bells of Westminster and the Knightsbridge March.    This lighthearted concert will close, appropriately, with the very British “Land of Hope and Glory” by Sir Edward Elgar.
