Marblehead Peninsula Lighthouse Festival

AKESIDE, Ohio  Celebrating its 13th year, the Marblehead Peninsula Lighthouse Festival will be held in Lakeside 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 11. The festival is a recently combined event which supports the Marblehead Peninsula Chamber of Commerce and the Lakeside Association.

 

Free tours of the Marblehead Lighthouse will be available 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Wolcott House (Keeper’s House) 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Free shuttle service will transport visitors from Lakeside to the Marblehead Lighthouse State Park 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Wolcott House 12  – 3 p.m. On the day of the festival, Marblehead Peninsula merchants and businesses will offer sales and specials.

 

Sprout & Shout! with John and Bonnie Wilkie will begin Lakeside’s entertainment festivities at 12 p.m. on the steps of Hoover Auditorium. Enjoy music that includes TV tunes, gospel, rock n' roll, hip hop and country. The entertainment will continue with magician Greg Carson at 1 p.m. His performance is a comedy magic program featuring fun, music and zany antics, guaranteed to generate laughter and excitement. Musician Lance Horwedel, a noted sound engineer and singer, will bring his guitar and love for classic rock at 2 p.m on the steps of Hoover Auditorium. Horwedel performs songs from classic artists of the 1960s and 70s. 

 

Lakeside's live entertainment will close with featured children's entertainer Chip Richter & The Munks at 4 p.m. in Orchestra Hall. Sponsored by the Ottawa County Community Foundation Grant, the ensemble's family concert brings a clear message of love and laughter through enjoyable tunes. 

 

Lakeside's annual Pie Contest, Auction & Sale will feature fruit pies. Enter a homemade fruit pie between 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Hoover Auditorium Lobby and receive one 2009 Daily Gate Pass to Lakeside. Prizes will be awarded to Best Pie Overall, Most Unique Recipe, Best Appearance, Best Pie Crust and Best Pie Baked by a Male, Female and Child. The winning pies will be auctioned at 3 p.m., while the remainder will be available for purchase at $7 per pie.  For official Pie Contest Rules please visit www.lakesideohio.com or call (419) 798-4461. 

 

More than 50 arts & crafts vendors will be at Lakeside’s Wesley Lodge, South Auditorium, Wo-Ho-Mis and lawn site displaying quality collectibles between 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Festival goers will also have the opportunity to discover Lakeside's history by taking a 90-minute guided walking tour through the fall foliage at 10:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. 

 

Sign-up for Lakeside's Corn Hole Tournament with a partner, $4 per team, beginning at 12 p.m. The tournament starts at 12:30 p.m. and will last throughout the afternoon. Children may participate in several fall-themed activities 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. for $3 including pumpkin and cookie decorating, pine cone bird feeder, fall magnets and paper plate masks. 

 

Other activities at the festival include $1 hayrides between 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., free miniature golf/shuffleboard between 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. movie at Orchestra Hall featuring “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2.”  Tickets are $5/adults and $3/children.  Food will be provided throughout the day by the Marblehead Peninsula Chamber of Commerce and Lakeside United Methodist Men. 

 

Take a fall break with the family in Lakeside on Saturday, October 11. Unlike the summer, guests will be able to enjoy the beauty of Lakeside without a gate pass.
