Ethnic Heritage Days
Marblehead "Ethnic Heritage Days" is a weekend series of events celebrating the Old World heritage of the village residents. All the various events take place along Marblehead's Main Street corridor (Rt. 163) in the downtown business district. Friday will feature a polka music concert at James Park from 5 pm to 7 pm. (Bring a lawn chair.) Saturday will have ethnic music at several venues along Main St., starting at Noon. The VFW Post 7572 is hosting a "Whitey Priebie Polka Fest" from 2 pm to 6 pm. Many of the Main Street propriteors and staff members of Marblehead's unique shops and eateries will greet you in ethnic costume. The Marblehead Lighthouse will also be open on Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm and Sunday from 5 pm tp 7 pm for guided tours.
Marblehead has long boasted a varied and unique ethnic mix among it's population. The early English, French, Irish, and German immigrants that settled here in the 19th century were joined around the turn of the 20th century by Eastern and Southern Europeans: Slovaks, Carpatho-Russians, Poles, and Italians, among others.
