International Museum Day
Erie County museums will join together on Saturday, May 21 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to celebrate International Museum Day in Sandusky and Milan. The Edison Birthplace will be offering free tours, science activities for children and a special replica of the Birthplace home to cut out and paste together.
The Cooke House will stage a Hula Hoop Contest at 3 p.m. with prizes to be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. They will also offer the lawn games throughout the day like croquet.
The Erie County Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee will be offering children’s games at the Sandusky Bay Pavilion. Erie MetroParks will offer historical walking tours of Osborn MetroPark, formerly the Osborn Prison Farm, historical displays and children’s activities.
At the Follett House Museum, guests are invited to pose for a reproduction photograph and create an animation toy. Visitors to the Maritime Museum of Sandusky can make a model boat and take a free boat ride aboard the Sawmill Explorer at 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. The rides depart from the Meigs Street Pier at Battery Park Marina . The Sandusky Power Squadron's safe boating mascot "Coastie" will be at the Maritime Museum. The Sandusky Underground Railroad Education Center will offer a trolley tour at 11:00 a.m. Reservations are required for the trolley tour, which departs from the Maritime Museum of Sandusky. The Merry-Go-Round Museum will offer the opportunity for budding artists to create their own carousel horse. The Milan Historical Museum will have a giant coloring mural, a penny boat test, and a period photo area where kids can dress-up and have their picture taken. The Ohio Veterans Home Museum will screen vintage war movies and offer games for children. The Sandusky Greenhouse will offer lawn games, and The Friends of the Greenhouse will have visitors upgrade herbs and sunflowers to take home.
