I want your 6

1. What are you listening to right now?
I'm listening to a lot of classic rock, like Rod Stewart's "Every Picture Tells a Story."

2. Name a cover song you've never done but would kind of like to try.
I'd love to do a Bruce Springsteen song, something like "Cadillac Ranch." That would be cool.

3. Who in the music world do you think is underrated?
I think Thin Lizzy was a super-talented rock band.

4. Anyone you think is overrated?

Land of Talk

Land of Talk is a buzz kill band according to lead singer-guitarist Elizabeth Powell.

Just a few weeks ago the group was playing an intimate gig where the audience was definitely in an altered state when it slyly played "Speak to Me Bones," from its recently released debut, "Applause Cheer Boo Hiss."

By the time the slow-paced track's crescendo arrived with cathartic results, the audience was rudely awakened.

BACKSTAGE PASS: Austin was crazy, fun and more

Hola from the great state of Texas, kiddies. Some of you might not have kept up to date (what the heck is the matter with you?), so this week I'll put the whole SXSW trip in a nutshell.

First off, we had a trip from hell getting to Austin from Cleveland. We made the abysmal mistake of flying on NWA, which may possibly stand for No Where Airlines (their motto "we already got your money, so who gives a crap now?").

Deuce

Genre:

We can't really be classified in a specific genre 'cause we play such a variety of music. Mostly rock & roll, though.

Musicians:

Jen McCloskey: Lead Singer

Mike Dandrea: Guitar

About the Band:

Deuce "The Wild Pair" Jen and Mike have had many years of experience working together on different projects.
They still play with their hair metal band "Crimson Wolf" and Mike is busy with an original project "Power Trip" look for them this summer too.

If you like Jens vocal talent in the Wolf Band you will love it in Deuce. It's a different style, her mellow side rings through, and has been a long time comming.
Mikes 7 string talent speeks for itself, from Santana to Charlie Daniels, enough said!!

Watch for them this summer from Elyria to the islands. They're a great two piece that sounds like a full band and would love to come to your place and show you what they've got.

For Booking info please call Jen at 419-656-4819

Ray Fogg, Island Rock God

Just because of the nature of his business, the Island Rock God is usually up pretty late. After all, when your job is singing to a roomful of drunks about getting drunk, you're likely to stay out pretty late drinking with them. God's first thought when he wakes up (usually late) the next morning is, "I need a glass of water." After a fairly healthy breakfast of eggs, he tries to partake in a completely healthy activity, like jogging, in order to make up for the night before. Alas, there is a dual nature to the Island Rock God, alias Ray Fogg.

A night all about the cacao bean

In some people's minds, Norwalk Theatre owner Teresa LaFountain may be some kind of promotional genius. Perhaps she's a P.T. Barnum or Willy Wonka for the new millennium.

Recently she was thinking about how to increase program offerings at the Norwalk Theater when an idea so brilliant -- and so sweet -- came to her she had to give it a shot.

Brown Derby Roadhouse

My husband and I enjoyed our leftovers from the Brown Derby Roadhouse as much as we enjoyed the original meal.

And there were plenty of leftovers, because the servings are generous, to say the least.

Roadhouse is primarily a steakhouse, but I followed my usual preference and ordered Chicken Breast Parmagiana -- wood-fired chicken breast topped with marinara sauce, melted cheese and mushrooms. My husband ordered the 14-ounce Rib Eye Steak.

Country legend still happy plying his craft

When thinking about his upcoming Huron County show, which takes place March 23 at the Norwalk Theater, country music legend Gene Watson said, "It'll be love in the hot evening."

It's been more than 30 years since his 1975 hit "Love in the Hot Afternoon" propelled this car mechanic from Houston clubs to national stardom with radio favorites such as "Fourteen Carat Mind." "Where Love Begins," "Farewell Party," "Should I Come (or Should I Go Crazy)," "Nothing Sure Looked Good on You" and more.

The Gospel of music is the Real McCoy

The soul of Americana Folk holds no allegiance or pays no homage to any identifiable artist, genre or era of time.

Americana is dirty and low rock country rhythm that doesn't sparkle like a My Little Pony tongue or gleam like an American Idol winner with a Hollywood haircut.

Folk music is the story of Americana life with all of its ups and downs, painted in ethereal earth tones on a landscape of a deep country southern sunset.

Two musicians with area ties are delivering that exact feeling to Columbus fans.
