Mi Amico: Making the very best of this bowl season

It's cold outside. The kids are getting restless. You need to get out of the house.

Or maybe you're a college student. You're home on break and have grown weary of the club scene. But you still want to find a way to celebrate the new year.

What do you do?

How about something that's been available in Sandusky for the past 43 years?

How about a little bowling?

Star Lanes (2097 Cleveland Road in Sandusky) might be a good starting point. It will be hosting a New Year's Eve celebration from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., staging what is being dubbed as the Glow 'n Bowl.

Lyman Harbor set to blast in New Year's

The New Year is coming in with a blast at Lyman Harbor.

For the first time ever, Lyman Harbor's New Year's Eve celebration is going Times Square style - with a live fireworks show at the stroke of midnight.

Even better than New York City, you won't have to stand out in the freezing weather to view the fantastic show - you can watch while dancing the night away in the comfort of Lyman Harbor's Compass Point Ballroom.

Aliens, Predators and the holidays

When you say the word "Christmas," the first images that come to mind for some people are of baby Jesus, sleeping in a manger as Joseph and Mary watch intently.

Others picture Santa Claus sliding down a chimney, carrying a sack of toys over his shoulder.

And then there's a smaller group of people for whom the word "Christmas" brings to mind images of vicious monsters from another planet fighting gruesome battles to the death.

Remedies to beat the New Year's blues

It's inevitable. Just as surely as one year comes to a close and a new one begins, headaches and sour stomachs abound on January 1st.

So is spending the first day of a brand new year suffering from being "over-served" any fun? No - but as I said, for some, it's inevitable.

Foss brings 'universal' music to Huron

For Angel Foss, music is life.

Heroes welcome

Your "Girlfriend" probably enjoys this game. So does your "Mother." Pretty much every "Woman" loves Guitar Hero.

Band feels "Lucky" to play locally

Letting it rock this holiday season is what Cleveland cover band Lucky Numbers will be doing when it returns to I-5's for a special New Year's Eve show in Huron.

"It's just the excitement and fun," said singer Christine LaMedica. "Personally I just love being up there singing and the best part about it is, I get to watch the crowd have a good time. To be up there watching them sing and dance, really that's what it's all about."

Making a Hip-Hop stand in Sandusky

When Alex "Clancey 420" Gooding arrived in Erie County a few years ago to take care of a sick family member, the Palm Springs, Calif., native realized he wanted to make Sandusky his home.

This also meant that his hip-hop act - the Red Eye Prophets - would be relocating to the Buckeye State. The duo, which also features Johnny "Cal-Cutta" Perez, formed around the turn of the century in Long Beach.

"It's a whole new breed of hip-hop," Gooding said.
