We love that crazy January calendar

Say, would you look at that? It must be summer already! Seriously — look at the calendar.

No, not your Dilbert desk calendar, the Funcoast.com calendar — the one that says summer must surely be here! Mad Dog Adams is playing at Mr. Ed’s this weekend and there’s a barbecue in Bellevue and Free Beer at Brutus’ Downunder  — sounds like summer to me!

Anything that can go wrong, will in Funny Valentines

When the Fremont Community Theatre play reading committee was looking to program its 2008/2009 season, President Mitchell Antesky rediscovered a play from his past that he felt was a perfect fit. The production is called “Funny Valentines” and it appears Jan. 30 through Feb. 8 at the Fremont Community Theatre.

There’s more to Kalahari than just water

Do the winter blues have you down? Have you have built enough snowmen to last a lifetime? Well, it’s a good thing you live near the nation’s largest indoor water park resort.

Kalahari resort not only boasts the nation’s largest water park, it also has shopping, authentic African art and artifacts, arcade games, great food and a relaxing spa, all under one roof.

Where to go when there's snow

Even though it’s been frigid for a few months already, the North Coast is just starting to see some of that winter snow. With that comes snow days, sledding and skiing. Here are just a few tips for where to best enjoy these classic wintertime activities.

Years later, Brandywine is better than ever

I remember it like it was yesterday. Well, not actually yesterday, more like 10 years ago. Getting all bundled up and prepared to head out for a day of hanging out with my friends and tearing down the slopes at Brandywine Ski Resort.

Fast forward 10 years and again I find myself heading out to Brandywine for an afternoon of jumps, rails and carving down the mountainside.

A finely tuned ‘Machine’

It takes a lot of work and commitment to make a band perfect. You see them on stage having a good time and you really enjoy your evening. Yet you never consider what is required to put on such a great show.

Damn Fine Machine, the area's newest power trio, wants you to know that they are polished and hitting on all eight cylinders. They have come together to combine their many years of playing experience for your entertainment.

Bullet Candy is bringing arcade shooters back

In the early days of gaming, technology (or the lack thereof) was a major obstacle standing in the way of adding more complexity to games. Arcade shooters were one of the first genres to emerge in those early times (Asteroids, anyone?). Now that hardware is less expensive and more advanced, arcade-style shooters have been left in the dust to some degree. Fortunately, Bullet Candy combines the best of the old and the new to form one of the most enjoyable arcade shooters I've played since their golden days.

Ohio’s own Man in Black

A lifelong fan of Johnny Cash, Terry Lee Goffee decided a few years ago to pay homage to the Man in Black.

It’s a fascination with the enigmatic “Hey Porter” singer that has allowed Coffee to take “Train of Love: A Tribute To Johnny Cash” around the globe. Funcoast.com talked to Goffee about his act, the power of Cash and his Jan. 24 show at the Norwalk Theatre.
