A new place to dine in Sandusky

It’s always exciting when an independent restaurant opens in our area, so when we heard that a former Zinc employee was opening his own place, the Funcoast staff was stoked. It took us a while to make it out there since they are only open for dinner hours, but it was worth the wait and effort.

Wine and dine at Crush

A couple of weeks ago we took a look inside the new Crush Winebar downtown. It wasn’t open yet, so all we could do was check out what it looked like. Well, they opened their doors on May 16, and we stopped by a few days later to see if the food lived up to the atmosphere. It did.

The Pie Factory: best idea ever?

A restaurant that sells mostly pizza and pie sounds like an excellent idea. Throw in delivery and assorted pastries, and it only gets better. Thankfully, that niche is already being filled in Sandusky in the form of The Pie Factory.

New Water Street Bar & Grille doesn't disappoint

You may have noticed that we were more than a little excited about the new Water Street Bar & Grille. So we stopped by on Monday when they opened to have some lunch and see if it lived up to the hype (that, admittedly, we helped create).

Something for everyone at Brian Buffet

I’ll admit that it’s sometimes difficult to differentiate between buffet-style restaurants because they all tend to taste the same, but Brian Buffet in Norwalk stands out in my mind because of the huge number of options available.

Cracker Barrel: a taste of home away from home

Cracker Barrel Old Country Store is based on good ol' home-style cookin' and brings you a family-oriented atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable. I always enjoy going to Cracker Barrel because it feels like a friendly visit with my husband and family and it doesn't break the bank.

Eastern Buffet: all-you-can-eat bang for your buck

In these troubled economic times, people – myself included – are always looking to get a lot of bang for their buck, even when it comes to food choices. The new Eastern Buffet at the Sandusky Mall perfectly satisfies this premise, giving you tons of all-you-can-eat variety while keeping costs down (it’s $6.79 for the buffet at lunch and $9.79 at dinner).

Go home again at Parkertown II

Unfortunately, because of its location in a nearly vacant plaza on Castalia Street, Parkertown II is easy to miss when you’re cruising through Bellevue. Fortunately, once you’ve spotted it, and taken the time to enjoy the many offerings, the restaurant won’t fall off of your radar.

Homestead is back to stay

Sandusky and the surrounding areas are full of history, but not many landmarks can boast the ability to serve great tasting food, offer a multitude of wines or have a handful of friendly, capable staff members on tap at a historical site. Fortunately, the newly re-opened Homestead Inn Restaurant can.

Cabana Jacks: More than booze and bands

Cabana Jacks is well known for great live entertainment, but it's their food menu that sets them apart from other local venues.
