Price not equal to Service and quality

This was the most outraged I've ever been in  a supposed fine dining establishment.

First of all the greeting and service were outdone by the greeter at Wal-mart, then the food was poor at best.

Salad out of a bag no-less followed by pieces (small) of pot roast wrapped in bacon searved as beef tendorlin.

The real joke was when I recieved the bill.

This place (reservations or not) will not last long unless they provide quality product and service for the amount they charge.

Zinc is the best!!

After reading those last 2 posts I was compelled to create an account here just to defend my favorite restaurant!  I just think that some people can never be pleased, because I have been to Zinc many times (as have many of my friends and family) and I (we) have never had bad service or food.  The first time we went there we sat at the bar and talked to the owner and had a great time and the food was superb. The specials menu is always changing based on what is the freshest ingredients available!  Where else in Sandusky (or anywhere near here) does that ever happen?!  In fact I think that Zinc has ruined other restaurants for me, I cannot go to any chain places and have a great meal, because they will always be overshadowed by my experiences at Zinc.  I am going to go make a reservation right now...and doesn't just the fact that reservations are required (at a place in smelly old run-down ghetto Sandusky with a hundred other places less than 2 miles away) prove that this place is worth it?

Bad Service, Good Food.

My wife and I gave the Zinc a few tries, the first time we had a great experience, the second, not so good, and the third, well, that was the time we vowed never to go back.  The food was good everytime we ate, but the service was well, lets just say i've had friendler service at burger king.  We love to dine out, and love the oppertunity to do so at a fancier resturant, but to drop 75 - 100 dollars at the Zinc, and get treated like dirt while your there, its just not going to cut it in my book.

We made 2 day advanced reservations, when we arrived, they were suprised to see us, they made us wait about 1/2 hour untill they scrambled together a high bar seat next to the drunkest loudest people they could find.  took them almost 20 min to even bring drinks and a menu.  ordered bread and a cheese plate to start, took another 15 min to get that. My wife and I ordered. 10 min later they took the order of the people next to us.  1/2 hour later the people next to us (approx 6 people) got there food before us!  it took them almost another 20 min before our food arrived. we never once got a refill on our water.  while the people next to us were treated like royalty.  and then they were shocked when we didnt order a desert.  By far the wost experience at any resturant we have ever endured.

I think from now on we will stick with the Red Gables, the atmosphere may not be as nice, but man they cook a mean steak!

By Far the Best Restaurant in Sandusky

Dinner and drinks may cost a couple upwards of $100, but it's well spent for a great evening out and a masterfully prepared meal.  For fine dining, the portions are filling, but not ridiculous.  On the other hand, the martinis are seriously portioned.  Let your significant other drive home after one of these bad boys.  I have never had a dinner at Zinc short of spectacular, but it may not be for everyone.  If you're the type of person that likes applebee's, stick with the chain places on 250 and bar food.  But, if fresh and unique meals with a low-key atmosphere is more up your alley, I strongly suggest this Sandusky gem.  Too bad they rest of the downtown hasn't followed suit.... please get rid of all the second hand shops!

People love talking about

People love talking about this place: they either love it or hate it. I've had bad experiences there at lunch (why can't they take the cheese off a sandwich?), but I'd be willing to go back there for a cocktail.

While Zinc may not be the

While Zinc may not be the best restaurant in the world, it is probably the best restaurant in town, imho. The prices are reasonable for what you get and the portions are surprisingly large. There are some real highlights on the menu, their calamari is some of the best I've ever had and their burger is shockingly good. Most importantly, you can get a decent cocktail.

Has a nice looking bar, intimate setting. Not a great beer selection. Lunch is really bad. No flavor to the soup or sandwiches.

Zinc is a little slice of New

Zinc is a little slice of New York City or San Francisco that's a welcomed addition to Sandusky's barren dining scene. The food is terrific. The ambiance is upscale without being stuffy. And the service is tremendous. During lunch, the service can be a little slow, but the food is top-notch. The goat cheese, onion and duck confit pizza is as good as anything you'll eat within 100 miles. And Zinc always has a long list of unique specials that exhibit the chef's creativity and his knack for successfully blending a wide variety of unusual ingredients. Even better, it's not too pricey considering the quality of food. I highly recommend it.
