Berlin Heights will be celebrating 154 years of basket making this year with its annual festival that attracts residents from all over the region.

Going on for 27 years, the Berlin Heights Basket Festival celebrates a family who’s been making baskets for over 150 years.

“They have had six generations of family members making baskets,” said Amelia Bliss, president of the Berlin Heights Basket Festival Committee. “We want to celebrate their success and the art of basket making.”

The festival will feature community activities, food, drinks and a good time for the whole family.

Some of the activities that will occur at the festival include a pageant, 5K run, arts and crafts show, eating contests, and live music.

“We expect around 5,000 people to attend,” Bliss said. “It is really a homecoming for a lot of people because you see people you have not seen in a while.”

It is not too late to sign up for any the activities at the festival and all are still open to the public.

“It should be a really nice festival,” Bliss said. “If you have not been in a while you should come check it out. Everyone is welcomed and we hope everyone has a great time.”

The annual Berlin Heights Basket Festival will be taking place from 10 a.m.-11 p.m. on Saturday, August 4 and 11 a.m.-8 p.m. on Sunday, August 5 at Center Street in Berlin Heights. For more information visit www.basketfestival.com.
