The circus is coming to town and residents are lining up to get their tickets.

The Kelly Miller Circus will be coming to Kelleys Island on Monday, August 6 and Tuesday, August 7. Two shows will be performed each day at 4 and 8 p.m., with something for all ages.

“We were established in 1938 and are a traditional circus that appears in a tent,” said Jim Royal, general manager of the circus. “We are on the road 38 weeks a year and travel from the Rio Grande Valley in Texas to New England.”

Having performed in all 48 states in the continental United States, the circus gives audience members the old time feel that is hard to get from modern day circuses.

While modern circuses like Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus perform in large arenas, the Kelly Miller Circus performs in the traditional tent or big top.

“We have all the elements that a traditional circus would have,” Royal said. “We have aerialist, acrobatics, elephants, dogs, clowns, zebras, lamas, tigers, a tight rope performer and of course ponies.”

The circus, which travels in a caravan of semi trucks, motor homes and cars, will be using the ferry to get over to Kelleys Island.

“This event is sponsored by the Kelleys Island Chamber of Commerce and is annual event,” Royal said. “We look forward to coming to Kelleys Island every year and appreciate all the hospitality we get from the islanders.”

The circus will take place at the Village Ball Park and residents are invited to come watch as the elephants raise the big top.

“It is great entertainment for the whole family,” Royal said. “If you go to a circus you will see multiple generations of families, because it is just something that everyone loves.”

Tickets to the Kelley Miller Circus are $6 for kids presale and $7 at the door. For adults presale tickets are $10 and $15 at the door. Tickets will be sold at The Village Pump, Kelleys Island Brewery, The General Store, Kelleys Island Chamber of Commerce, Mutach's Market and at The Candy Bar at PIB.
