A new month brings a new Sandusky Art Walk theme. This month’s September Art Walk highlights a favorite among people of all genders, ages and backgrounds: food.
If you’re not familiar with the Sandusky Art Walks, they happen every month, April through November, on the first Thursday of the month. The three-hour event consists of artists and their artwork presented in downtown Sandusky’s nontraditional venues and businesses. The point of the Art Walks is to bring people to downtown and showcase all the great things Sandusky has to offer.
September’s Art Walk theme is “Culinary Arts”, so heavy emphasis will be placed on the unique restaurants and food shops you can only find in downtown Sandusky.
“We’ll be highlighting on our map the various food vendors in downtown Sandusky,” Art Walk organizer Judy Corso said. “[We’ll be] encouraging Art Walk attendees to try a little something at as many [vendors] as possible.”
According to Corso, the vendors expected to participate include Daly’s, Wendy Kromer’s Water Street Grille, Hot Dog Tony’s, Mona Pizza, Mr. Smith’s Coffee House, The Lunch Box, J Bistro, Sweet Treats, Cabana Jack’s, Zinc, Crush, Subway and the hot dog vendor in the park.
“The original purpose [of Art Walk] was to bring people downtown to the Merry-Go-Round Museum,” Corso told us. “It’s blossomed into the place to be on the first Thursday. The merchants have embraced Art Walk and benefitted from it, Main Street and City Greenhouse have beautified the streets and the artists have a place to showcase their particular art.”
So, why should you care about visiting these food vendors during the Art Walk when you can visit them any other day? The Sandusky Art Walk is something special and offers so much more than an average day in downtown Sandusky.
“Every Art Walk is different in that there are new artists each month, some who are there every month and some who only come occasionally,” said Corso. “If you’ve never experienced Art Walk, you’re missing out on a really fun evening of being introduced to various art forms, meeting old friends and making new ones, finding that perfect gift for someone hard to buy for, getting to know all the marvelous little shops in downtown Sandusky and, best of all, just spending a wonderful evening strolling the best kept secret on the north coast, our beautiful waterfront.”
The Art Walk, being a monthly event that highlights all that quaint Sandusky downtown has to offer, is a great way to get outside, gather with friends, and take advantage of the beauty and opportunities right in our backyard.
“Every Art Walk I hear someone say, ‘Gee, I live in Erie County but I haven’t been to downtown Sandusky in twenty years. I’ve forgotten how beautiful it is,’” Corso added.
To experience the September Sandusky Art Walk highlighting Culinary Arts, visit downtown Sandusky on Thursday, September 6 between 5 & 8 p.m.
