A musical genius will be helping a local orchestra celebrate their 30th anniversary by doing a once in a lifetime performance.
Russian piano protégé Daniel Trifonov will be helping the Firelands Symphony Orchestra launch their 2012-2013 season. The unique concert will take place on Saturday, September 15 at the Sandusky State Theatre, 107 Columbus Avenue in Sandusky.
“This young man is only 20 years old and has already won several international piano competitions,” said Jamie Steinemann, executive director of the Firelands Symphony Orchestra. “It is truly an honor to have him performing with us.”
Born and raised in Russia, in 2010 Trifonov won the International Tchaikovsky Competition Grand Prix. Currently he is attending the Cleveland Institute of Music, which gives him the availability to perform with the Firelands Symphony Orchestra.
Trifonov will perform Rachmaninoff’s glorious “Third Piano Concerto” with the orchestra.
“He is performing one of the most challenging piano concertos ever,” Steinemann said. “After this performance he will be going on a worldwide concert tour, so we are very lucky to have him.”
This performance will open the orchestra’s 30th season and mark their best season yet.
Tickets to the performance are $28 per ticket, $25 for three tickets and free balcony tickets for students with a valid id.
“This is a perfect concert experience with the best in orchestra music,” Steinemann said. “This young man has world class talent. He is in the same league as internationally famous soloists. It is going to be a thrill to see him perform.”
Tickets to the concert help support the orchestra, as well as pay for educational outreach in local schools.
Look for other concerts this season, including the Patriotic Pops performing “A Salute to America” on November 10.
