‘Tis the season for giving. This week’s top picks include plenty of opportunities to do just that – but of course, you’ll get something great in return: the gift of live music (and lots of it).
1.) Holiday Jam’s “The 12 Bands of Christmas” Why you should go: The weather outside is frightful, but 12 local bands playing your favorite Christmas tunes is a delight. Funcoast.com has joined with K96 and WLKR to bring you this fun, music-filled event, which will benefit Victory Kitchen, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie-Seneca Counties and the Mike Prout Memorial Scholarship. Local bands and musicians include Steve Brownell, Bob Gatewood, Dan Fester, Christian Kaser, Rob Webb, The Happy Hour Band, Brad Walk, Angel Foss, Big New Direction, Cornbread Mafia and more. They will also be raffling off an assortment of gift baskets. Tickets for the raffle are $1 each or six for $5 (you need not be present to win). There will be snacks available for purchase and event proceeds go to the Self-Determination Group. Christmas Toy Drive Event Why you should go: Tony G’s Bar & Grill is hosting a Christmas Toy Drive, where they’ll collect new toys to distribute to the Angel Tree Program for children in need this Christmas season. Tony G’s has agreed to buy your first beverage of the night after the donation of any gift that costs $10 or more (please bring receipt). There will also be great food, prizes and raffles. Live music begins at 2 p.m. and goes through midnight. Performing musicians include Alister, Tommy Garcia, Tommy Christian, obert Bruce, Chad Miller, Bradley C. Sandusky Roller Girls present Toys for Tots: A Christmas Event Why you should go: Donate a new, unwrapped toy and receive free skate admission. Bonus: you get to hang out with the awesome Sandusky Roller Girls. (Stay out of their way on the rink, though.) Give back to those in need in our community, and have fun doing it. Operation Needy Kids 2011 Why you should go: This is the 12th year of the annual charity event, which benefits the needy kids of Sandusky County. Bands include SuGarBoxX, Quickshine, Bloody Buffalo and Bad Apple. There will be free taxi services provided by Fremont Taxi (419-333-0544). It’s an all-ages show, so there will be no BYOB. Refreshments will be available.
