We’ve got some great picks to help you usher in 2012 with a ride, a bet or a splash. Check out our top picks for the weekend below.

1.)   Sleigh Rides Why you should go: It’s the perfect way to celebrate the holiday season, winter and the New Year. Recreate a scene straight from a Currier & Ives print as the Hayes Center hosts sleigh rides through the estate of 19th U.S. President R.B. Hayes. The young and old alike will delight in these nostalgic horse-drawn tours through the 25-acre estate. WHEN: 1-4 p.m. Dec. 28-31 WHERE: R.B. Hayes Presidential Center, Spiegel Grove, Fremont             COST: $3/rider INFO: 419-332-2081 or rbhayes.org   2.)   BrickHouse: The Official Commodores Tribute Band Why you should go: This show will be fun for all ages, with slow dancing and all the greatest hits from the Commodores. One thing to remember: BrickHouse is not just a band, they are a show. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. with an opening band, which will be followed by a performance by BrickHouse at 8 p.m. WHEN: 7:30 p.m. Dec. 30 WHERE: Sandusky State Theatre, 107 Columbus Ave., Sandusky COST: $15/ticket INFO: 419-626-1950 or sanduskystate.com   3.)   Toast of the Town New Year’s Eve Gala Why you should go: Without a doubt, this is one of the area’s most-loved New Years Eve traditions. Almost anyone can feel comfortable in the Merry-Go-Round Museum’s atmosphere, which is festive, fun and elegant (without being too formal). For a nice evening of music, hors d’oeuvres, drinks and of course, rides on the merry-go-round, this is a top event you won’t want to miss. WHEN: 6-9 p.m. Dec. 31 WHERE: Merry-Go-Round Museum, 301 Jackson St., Sandusky          COST: $15 per ticket INFO: 419-626-6111 or merrygoroundmuseum.org   4.)   New Year’s Eve Las Vegas Style Charity Casino Why you should go: For adults (and only adults), this evening of high stakes is the perfect way to indulge – no trip to Vegas necessary. The night features Vegas-style gambling, dancing, a cash bar and a chance to win prizes with gaming tickets. Live music will be provided by Heart & Soul and Cruisin. WHEN: 8:30 p.m. Dec. 31 WHERE: Sawmill Creek Resort, 400 Sawmill Creek Dr., Huron COST: $25 per person INFO: 419-433-3800 or sawmillcreekresort.com   5.)   5th Annual Polar Bear Plunge Why you should go: Are you brave enough to grin and “bear” it? Put yourself to the test at this annual event, held on the shores of Lake Erie at Erie Kai Tavern & Firefly Beach Resort. Work up your nerve, and then plunge into the icy cold water at noon on New Year’s Day. At the very least, you can start 2012 with a splash. WHEN: 11 a.m. (plunge takes place at 12 p.m.) Jan. 1 WHERE: Erie Kai Tavern & Firefly Beach Resort, 4903 Cleveland Road E., Huron         COST: Free INFO: 419-433-4910   Have a suggestion for our Top Five weekend picks?
