The Invention Restaurant in Milan is one of those places that has been there forever but I'd never visited. I was both impressed by the atmosphere inside and the abundance of options on their menu. Years ago I seem to remember that they were famous for their homemade pies, yet I don't recall seeing any sign about that today.
They serve breakfast all day long and I can say without hesitation that they are the home of the bottomless cup of coffee. The waitress was very attentive to our needs and our food arrived in a very timely manner. I chose the Lake Erie Perch sandwich which came with my choice of side (I selected cole slaw) and French fries. The cole slaw resembled that prepackaged slaw which is sold in grocery stores as it wasn't freshly made, and not as good as most. My dinner companion had the Western Omelet and said everything was to his liking.
I find that just because a restaurant isn't part of a larger chain doesn't mean that their food isn't excellent. The next time you're in Milan, stop if only for a cup of coffee. The people are extremely friendly and made us "outsiders" feel very welcome there.
