Blizzard Entertainment is a developer known for putting out nothing but high quality, top selling games. Diablo is one of the early franchises that helped them build this reputation, and fans have been clamoring to return to the dark fantasy world of Sanctuary ever since the last Diablo game was released in 2001. After years of anticipation, gamers are finally going to get their hands on Diablo 3 this Tuesday, May 15.

At its core, Diablo is all about combat and loot. Players are able to choose from five character classes, each with their own unique skills and abilities. From there it’s a matter of pointing and clicking your way through randomly generated worlds and dungeons to slay endless legions of undead creatures and collect whatever goodies they leave behind. The constant sense of exploring somewhere new combined with the drive to upgrade your equipment and add to your gold stash is shockingly addictive for as simple as the concept is.

Leveling up your character and unlocking new abilities is another major motivator. The five classes are quite distinct, allowing players to approach the game with whatever style suits them best. Regardless of which you choose you’ll have a steady stream of fun new toys to unleash on the endless dungeons full of baddies.

Getting online wasn’t quite as easy in 2001 as it is now, but even then the multiplayer was a major part of Diablo. Adventuring alone was never quite as fun as getting a few friends in to help out, and Blizzard has majorly expanded upon this in Diablo 3. The game is fully integrated with Battle.net (Blizzard’s online gaming service) which means that finding friends to play with is super simple. There’s also an auction house that lets you buy or sell loot from/to other players if want.

Upgraded graphics, a revamped questing system, streamlined multiplayer and a metric boatload of other new features make it look like Blizzard will live up to their sterling reputation once again. Diablo 3 drops tomorrow, May 15. This is one you won’t want to miss. See the trailer below.
