Imagine someone hands you a puzzle, but they don't give you any instructions on how to solve it. Sounds a little frustrating, right? Well, that's exactly what the game 100 Floors asks you to do. And for all of its puzzle-solving glory, 100 Floors is this week's Funcoast App of the Week.
100 Floors just came out last week, and it's been the most downloaded app in the Apple App Store since. At first glance, the game looks simple enough: you're placed in what looks like a lobby, looking at an elevator door. The point of the game is to figure out how to get the doors to open so that you can move on to the next level.
Now, since the point of the game is to figure out each level's secret for yourself, we won't offer too much in the way of game spoilers or walk-throughs (although you can find those elsewhere online, if you're so inclined). But overall, this game of finding patterns in hidden places is definitely addictive for the problem-solving mind. Plus, you get to smash things with a sledgehammer, figure out how to outsmart gorillas and snakes and defuse bombs while you're at it.
What we really like about this game is how creative it gets by using the device that you're playing on. We played on the iPad, and the game does a really fun and creative job of using the iPad's accelerometer (the part inside the iPad that can sense which way you're holding in). Without giving too much away, the ability to turn the iPhone or iPad from side-to-side, lay it flat or shake it plays a big part in solving a lot of the levels of this game.
If you're up for a good puzzle, we definitely recommend 100 Floors. It will have you scratching your head, but we at Tandem Mobile love a good brain-teaser! 100 Floors is currently only available for the iPhone, iPad and the iPod Touch. Put down the crosswords and sudoku and give 100 Floors a try.
