BEER ME!
Those words bring thoughts of quaffing a bottle of your favorite hopped and fermented, malted grain beverage. Say what? I just want a beer, dude!
Now some people do not have a clue what those words mean nor do they care. But if you’re the curious type, then try attending a beer tasting event. It’s a great way to dive into the fun, and sometimes confusing, world of beer. Did I say world? I think today it’s more of a galaxy!
Now, do you need to be an expert to enjoy a beer? Of course not! Being informed of the different types of beer available, though, allows you to be a bit more adventurous the next time you go to the carryout or your favorite adult beverage hang out. (How’s that for political correctness?)
Light to dark, bitter to sweet — there are many styles of beer to choose from and tasting events are a great way to try the different types without having to buy the entire six pack to find out that you really hate that pale ale thing!
Most tastings will have a list of the beers printed up for attendants so they can learn a bit about what they are trying. Each taste is limited to a two-ounce pour of beer and you are encouraged to make notes as to what you like or dislike about each one.
There should be a person, usually the individual pouring the samples, present to answer any specific questions you may have about the beers. Light snacks are included so you can clean your palate between samples and keep you upright, if you know what I mean. The cost to attend a small tasting event varies depending on the beers and type of foods served, but generally range from $5-15 per person.
So the next time you see a beer tasting event offered, try it out and see what you’ve been missing. They’re fun and educational.
Speaking of which, I know of this place called Piccolo’s Wine Shop in the Hammer Huber Plaza (between Hull Road and U.S. 250) that just happens to be having their Winter Beer Tasting this Friday, (How ironic!) So if this beer tasting babbling has you wondering what all the fuss is about, stop out from 4-8 p.m. and participate.
You can call Piccolo’s Wine Shop at 419-625-2714 for more info.
