When it comes to planning a party, you have to give Sandusky State Theatre officials credit. The Jeans and Jewels 80th Anniversary Gala, which takes place from 7 p.m. to midnight Oct. 11 at the Sandusky venue, has a little bit of everything for everyone. In fact, that’s the whole point.
“We want the young and the old to feel like they can come here dressed in their jeans or dressed in evening gowns,” said Director of Development and Promotions Karen A. Fuller. “We just don’t want the younger generation to feel as though they can’t come and celebrate just as well as the older.”
This fashionable casino night features a speakeasy lounge with gaming tables (blackjack and roulette) and poker (Texas hold’em), hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. While it’s a non-cash casino, winners can use their chips to get raffle items. Also planned is a silent auction, where two different cutoffs (9 and 10:30 p.m.) allow people to participate even if they don’t want to stay the entire evening. There’s also plenty of music.
“We’ll have Sandusky resident Tom Leber playing the piano from 7 to 9 p.m. in the balcony,” Fuller said. “There’s also the ‘Back Stage Lounge,’ with the CoCoBeanOs. The band will play from 9 p.m. to midnight.”
In the spirit of fun, a trick-or-treat “Treasure Chest,” filled with costume jewelry and a few real pieces, will be available for those people willing to risk $10 in hopes of grabbing something special. Also, jewelry items will be for sale.
The Jeans and Jewels 80th Anniversary Gala serves as a fundraising event for the Sandusky State Theatre.
“While it’s been two or three years since we did an actual anniversary celebration, from this point forward we’ll probably use this time of the year as a fundraising event,” Fuller. “We’ll just tie it to the anniversary. So this year, come one, come all. You don’t need an invitation.
“It’s open to the public. It’s going to be a good relaxing evening, and they can either wear jeans or jewels. It’s formal or casual. So get ready for an unforgettable evening to commemorate the hallmark occasion for not only the theater but Sandusky as well. It will be a night to remember.”
