You've heard of political correctness. How about musical correctness?

That's what Lance Horwedel is bragging his cover band Hipster, which is scheduled to perform Nov. 24 at Cabana Jacks, 202 Columbus Ave. in Sandusky, is all about.

"We play every song pretty correctly," Horwedel said. "Because we've been doing it for so long, if you want to hear the right guitar parts, the right vocal harmonies and everything intact, this is a good band to see. We're just a straight up rock 'n' roll band, and we've been together for 22 years. We've got skills."

Those skills include playing ë80s rock tunes from the likes of Bon Jovi, Whitesnake and Dokken. The outfit also does its fair share of Led Zeppelin and some Black Sabbath too, along with new material from The Raconteurs and Finger Eleven.

As for Horwedel, a fulltime custom cabinetmaker, hardly a day goes by that he doesn't play with one of his handful of bands. He's also a key player in Fleetwood Mac tribute act Rumours, '60s and '70s act Dazey Chain, Fab Four cover group Super Beatle and local favorite The End.

"I try to have fun," Horwedel said. "Obviously there's no romance in lugging gear around, but I enjoy it when the crowd is into it. And if you get the right room full of people for the band you're playing with at that time, it can be a lot of fun if the people out there are checking it out or dancing or having a good time."

Invariably there has been plenty of good times in recent years, with Hipster becoming a popular summertime act.

"You know what's funny is we were playing songs when they were actually current," Horwedel said. "Like we learned (Bon Jovi's) ëYou Give Love a Bad Name' when it was new. That was in 1986."

Are you surprised Hipster is still around 20 years later?

"I'm surprised we're all still alive because we used to party quite a bit back then," Horwedel laughed. "I'm not saying we don't party anymore, but we've slowed down."

OK, here we are two decades later and you're still playing the same tunes. Can you believe that?

"You can still play it because it's like all over the radio," Horwedel said. "You'll hear Whitesnake on WCPZ from time to time. It's kind of scary."
