Playing 'the stuff people want to hear'
0 commentsWhen the 2007 Ohio Bike Week festival takes over Columbus Avenue this weekend, you can bet local cover act Mr. Bone will get the audience's motor running.
"This is our third year in a row," Mr. Bone singer-drummer Matt Miller said. "I think it's just popular demand - we've always done a good job and people have really given us good responses."
There's little question why this group - Miller, Ben Archer (vocals), Neal Barrett (guitar, vocals) and Randy Cress (bass) - has become a favorite among the biker crowd.
"We just do a lot of Ted Nugent, AC/DC and Steppenwolf," Miller said. "Just good old-fashioned rock ën' roll. We don't play any B-side stuff. We play the stuff people want to hear."
That includes popular covers from a wide array of artists and genres - rock tunes from the likes of Chuck Berry, Poison, Blink-182, Jimmy Eat World and Velvet Revolver. There's also some country music thrown in for good measure, with the Clyde-based act currently playing Trace Adkin's mega-hit "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk" and Big & Rich's "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy."
"We play a good variety," said Miller, a full-time construction laborer. "That's what I've been told. I played heavy metal music before in a band, and for people to see me play country music, they're blown away. They didn't know that this side of me ever existed, so I like being diversified and being able to shock people (by) playing something they'd never expect I'd play."
Formed in 1999, Mr. Bone has gone through numerous members before its current lineup came together. For Miller, who remains the only original member, the outfit acts as a release from the daily grind.
"We're just about having a good time. That's what everybody wants to do - just relax," Miller said. "That's what we're all about. And that's why people come down to see us. We want them to leave satisfied."
