Peculiar St. Patrick's Day
0 commentsWell, color me confused.
Monday is March 17, right? Except different things I've read say we're not supposed to hoist the green beer that day because it's too close to Easter.
It seems the Easter Bunny is riding in on the coat tails of the leprechaun this year and we're supposed to be pious instead of partying next week.
Some reports say we should celebrate Friday, some say Saturday, but everyone in Ireland still has the day off on Monday and the Funcost.com calendar tells me events are scheduled every single one of those days plus Sunday, so you see why I'm confused.
On top of that, there's a Cinco de Mayo (aka May 5th) Dinner in Port Clinton on Sunday and I originally thought House - as in Dr. Gregory - was appearing at Club X on Monday.
I got all excited (I do miss the guy!) but it turns out it's another wild man named House and well, it's all very puzzling.
Are you confused too?
OK, I'm going to try to sort this out.
For those of you who plan to pay homage to St. Patrick all weekend long, I suggest:
- Kicking it off at Daly's on Friday with DJ KneBo, who won a spot as Best DJ at last week's Readers' Choice Awards.
You can't go wrong starting St. Patrick's Day weekend at Daly's. It's a tradition!
- Doing an extended pub crawl (call a taxi please) Saturday, to include: a Rockabilly Revival at Crossroads Tavern in Wakeman - I know, that's a little bit out of the way, but rockabilly?
I love rockabilly! - then on to Mr. Ed's in Port Clinton to party with the Danger Brothers and members of The Dock Trash Yacht Club, who sound like an absolute blast!
- Bouncing back Sunday at Cabana Jack's (also a big Readers' Choice winner) with March Madness specials - cheap, cheap wings and pizza and of course, the best beer selection around.
- Monday you can meet the "other" House at Club X, where I hear he'll be "wreaking his annual Irish mayhem," Mona Pizza will be providing reubens and "The Boondock Saints" will be shown.
But you should probably plan to fit Daly's in again either before or after, because St. Patrick's Day isn't St. Patrick's Day without a visit to Daly's.
- On Tuesday you should rest.
Now, you say you get pooped just thinking about all those parties? Never fear. There are plenty more laid-back family-friendly activities going on too.
- On Friday we have the "Merry-Go-Memories" open house at the Merry-Go-Round Museum featuring a carousel tiger cub who reportedly has "the awww factor - everyone who sees him says ‘awwww!'"Also "Penelope" opens - whether or not she has the awww factor remains to be seen...
- Saturday is the second day of the Great Lakes Home and Flower Show at Kalahari. Flowers! What a welcome sight - and something green that won't give you a headache in the morning.
- Now on Sunday you might see bagpipers strolling around the Great Wolf Lodge.
And what do I love even more than rockabilly?
Bagpipes!
And I also prefer hot tamales to boiled cabbage. You say you do too? Then you'll want to check out that early Cinco de Mayo dinner in Port Clinton I mentioned.
Well would you look at that, I'm running out of room and have to wrap this up already. Whatever you do, have fun and I'll see you tomorrow at the Rotary Pizza Challenge!
